Dear Lee University Family,

We are writing to let you know of an exciting opportunity to support Lee alum, Phil Stacey (‘02).  Phil has made it into the Top 24 contestants on the hugely popular television show “American Idol.” If you are not acquainted with the show, a talent search has attracted a mammoth following across the nation and around the world. After several weeks of weeding out thousands of contestants, Phil’s advancement to the Top 24 is a major accomplishment. With our help, Phil will continue to advance.

While attending Lee, Phil and his wife Kendra were both members of the Lee Singers, Second Edition and Sigma Nu Sigma. In addition to his “Lee connection,” Phil grew up in the Church of God and his parents, Gary and Adrell Stacey and grandparents, E.T. Stacey and Carlie Horn, have all been involved in ministry. Currently Phil serves as the music pastor at his home church, First Coast Christian Center , located in Jacksonville , Florida . He also serves as an officer in the United States Navy as lead singer of the MU3 Navy Band Southeast.

Phil is an alumnus that every person connected with Lee University can be proud of and support. Just imagine the impact that Phil will make for Lee University and most importantly the Gospel upon becoming the next “American Idol.” What an exciting prospect!

Unfortunately, hoping that Phil will win is not enough and simply watching will not guarantee a win either. Here’s how you can help. What will take seconds may literally change the outcome. It could also propel Phil Stacey and Lee University into the national spotlight. The only way for Phil to win is for you to vote for him each week and to encourage your network of friends and family to join you in this endeavor. This is an exciting opportunity available to each of us to make a difference. President Conn has said, “I think he is an alum we can all be proud of.”
