What Foods Are Most Filling?

*I found this on a message board at WW.com. I thought it was interesting and it's something I sure didn't know! This could explain why I get hungry, eventhough I'm eating healthy food! Colette

Are carbs or protein the most filling?

It depends--partly on the person, and partly on the "carbs" in question.

Both proteins and complex carbs (vegetables and whole grains) are more filling than simple carbs (sugars, white breads, and pastas made from refined wheat rather than whole wheat, etc.)

You do need to get both proteins and complex carbs, and the lack of either one can leave you feeling hungrier than you need to be. The exact mix that's most satisfying, though, does vary from person to person. Some people do better with more protein, others with more complex carbs.

WW recommends 6-8 points of protein, 6-8 points of whole grains, 2-4 points dairy, 2 points healthy oils, and at least five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. If you're eating all your points and still feeling hungry, the first thing to do is check your food mix and see if you're getting all of those. If you are, then try changing the exact mix of proteins vs. carbs in one direction or the other, and see what works for you.
