I have a question

Hi ladies...I would really like to try to do WW, but I don't have the money to actually join. Is there anyway you guys could help me out on how I could do it by myself? Like how many points I should be eating, ect?? I am thinking of going to an OA meeting...what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

I would recommend the WW program to ANYONE that was wanting to lose. I've been doing this for about a month and I've already lost 14 lbs. And it's the been the easiest plan to stick to!

If you check out the WW website, you might find a lot of helpful information. I'm not sure if they explain exactly how to figure points, but it is based on the numbers of fiber grams, calories, and fat grams.  Check out the site and see what you can find. The number of daily points you are allowed is determined by your weight. I could answer that question for you if you tell me how much you weigh.

I want to say that WW is also very inexpensive. If you can manage to allow $11 per week, you can afford this. You don't have to buy WW products or extra goodies they try to sell you.

See what you can find out from the website. Good luck!

Dottiebeverly, I agree with Kassidy. I've been on the program for 20 weeks and I've lost 39.6 lbs. The Weight Watcher's program is the one that my doctor reccomended. He said it's the healthiest and most succesful..and that you keep it off if you stay with the program...unlike other quick fixes, like low carb or fad diets.

I can certainly understand not having the money right now. The nice thing about WW is that you eat normal food...alot of fruit and veggies (which are less expensive), and you save money by cutting out the junk.

If you will pm me how much weight you need to lose, I can tell you how many points you will get. Points are taken away after you lose so much weight. You must have 2 milk servings per day (3 if your a teenager). A milk serving consists of fat free skim milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese. Use fat free or reduced fat products. In order for a product to count as a dairy serving it must have at least 20% calcium. Otherwise, you may eat it, but it won't fulfill your requirement for the day. You must eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables a day and 2 tsp of a healthy oil (olive, canola, flax seed, sunflower, safflower ONLY. You may have other oils but they don't count as your healthy oil requirement.

When you join WW, you are given a slide rule like card that allows you to calculate points values using the nutrition information on any product. Here is the link to a free online calculator that will help you.

Free Online Points Calculator. Just plug in the calorie, fat and fiber numbers and you will get your point value per serving. Use the serving suggested on the product package.

I hope this helps. Even if you just followed some of our daily menus you would get an idea of how the program works.

Here is the link to sample menus that you can follow. Let me know your weight goal and I'll be able to tell you your points target. Good luck, if we can help please let us know. Jump on in and know that you're welcome and we're happy to have you on this long road with us! Colette

Dottiebeverly....also call the WW 1-800 number for your area....you may be able to get that online.  They do offer scholarships for people who need help finanically.  I don't know the details.  I just know one of the ladies in my group is on it.

Also...if you are in TN and on the state insurance (TennCare) you can go to meetings for $1 due to them wanting to see the parallel between weight loss and healthy weight.

I don't know if other states have something simliar to that or not, but if you call the 1-800 number (I think it differs by state) they should be able to tell you.

Good luck...and we will try to help all we can too!
