Top each serving of this compote with a small scoop of mango sorbet and a sprig of fresh mint to add color and elegance.
2 1/2 cup water 1 cup wine, white (or white grape juice) 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 Tbsp whole cloves, about 8 cloves 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon, or 2 cinnamon sticks 1/2 pieces ginger root, 1/2-inch-thick, cut into 2 slices 1/8 tsp lemon zest, or 1 piece lemon peel 1 1/2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice 1 cup blackberries 1 cups raspberries 12 medium strawberries, halved
Instructions
1. In a small pot, combine water, wine, sugar, cloves, cinnamon and ginger. Add strips of zest and 1 tablespoon juice from lemon half. Heat mixture to boiling. Reduce and simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes. 2. Transfer liquid to large glass serving bowl and cool until warm. Add blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. Let stand about an hour. Serve with slotted spoon, discarding spices and lemon rind.
