TURBO WEIGHT WATCHERS Article in Woman's World Magazine


I just bought the new issue of Woman's World Magazine and there is a feature article on how to turbo charge the Weight Watcher's program. There are some fabulous tips. While I can't type the whole article, here is the "magic bullet" that might help some of us kick start the program again. The article is about a woman, Liz, who has lost 36 pounds on Weight Watchers.


MAGIC COMBOS

"Eat foods in the right combinations! When you eat just one type of food at a time-expecially fat free carbs, you can eat alot of it and never feel truly satisfied. But combine a little carb, fat and protein all togeather and it creates a sense of physical and psychological fullness, and when you do that, you set yourself up to succeed. It's the key to everything.

SCIENCE BEHIND THE MAGIC

Liz is so convinced that this strategy works, she tend to think that folks who skip it are making a big mistake. A team of New Zealand researchers couldn't agree more. After conducting a series of studies, they've found that dieters who opt for Liz's magic combos lose 50% more weigh and experience dramatically less hunger. Magic-combo dieters also end up with higher metabolisms than traditional dieters, adds University of Illinois Donald K. Layman, Ph.D. See, getting protein at each sitting prevents hunger-induced blood sugar spikes and increases levels of a metabolism-boosting amino acid called leucine. And getting that protein with a little carb and fat keeps us from feeling deprived and giving up."

Go to Weight Watchers Community Bulletin Board. The message boards are free, and there's always somebody there to help.

TREAT YOURSELF WITHOUT BINGING

Pop a piece of gum in your mouth after you've had a modest portion.

DON'T LET ONE SLIP UP STOP YOU!

If you drop one egg, do you say "That's it!" and smash the whole dozen? No! Drop the egg and move on!

NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT FOOD AND BOTTLE OF WATER!

That way you're never stuck without a good option.


KEEP A FOOD JOURNAL~IF YOU BITE IT...YOU WRITE IT!!!!

You'll see what meals help you lose the most weight.



EXAMPLES OF MAGIC COMBO MEALS

These meal are between 20 & 24 daily points totals. Most do not contain your dairy
serving so be sure to get your dairy and oils in too.

BREAKFAST

Choose one daily

1 1/2 cups Kashi Good Friends cereal
1 cup fat-free milk
1 medium banana

________________________

2 scrambled eggs
1 lite English muffin
2 veggie sausage links
1 cup blueberries

_________________________

1 Weight Watcher's muffin
1 Tbsp. peanut butter
1 cup sliced strawberries


LUNCH

Choose one daily

3 cups mixed salad
4 oz. grilled chicken breast
1/3 cup each chickpeas, chopped bell
pepper, scallions and fat-free cheese
2 Tbsp lite dressing
_________________________
1 sushi roll (6 pieces)
2 cups steamed snow peas
1/2 tsp sesame oil
1 orange
_________________________

6" low fat Subway sandwich
extra veggies
1 bag baked chips
1 pear


DINNER

Choose one daily

1 Morning Star Farms black bean burger,
1 slice low fat cheese
1 lite English muffin
2 cups bell pepper rings,
2 Tbsp lite dressing

____________________________

4 oz chicken or fish
1 cup cooked whole wheat pasta
2 cups grilled vegetables
2 tsp olive oil

_____________________________

3 boiled perogies
2 Tbsp lite sour cream
2 oz lean ham
2 cups broccoli
1 cup applesauce

_____________________________

2 links low fat tgurkey or chicken sausage
2 whole grain buns
2 cups green beans
2 tsp olive oil



SNACKS

Choose one daily

1 piece/cup fruit
1 Tbsp peanut butter
or 1 stick string cheese
_______________________________

10 baby carrots
1/4 cup hummus

_______________________________

1/2 cup cooked oatmeal
1 Tbsp each dried fruit and nuts

_______________________________

1 cup low fat flavored yogurt
1/2 cup blueberries
